The concept of Gypsys Restaurant & Wine Bar was created by two Australians in 2003. Both had lived and traveled throughout the PRC over a period of ten years. Gypsys offer an uncompromising standard of wholesome food accompanied by service that Westerners want but rarely find in the PRC.

Gypsys serve up an eclectic mix of Greek, Italian, Indian, Mediterranean, Asian, TexMex, to Modern Australian food, combining the use of fresh local produce and imported meats, poultry, etc in a clean and comfortable café, bistro, environment. Serving Western portions, great detail has been given to staff training in Western service protocols notwithstanding the multi-ethnic mix of visitors who patronize the restaurant. Consistency in the quality of food, service, cleanliness is as important as the ambience created by its choice of music, the restaurant's color theme, and its subdued lighting.

Gypsys offer a fine array of wines, beer and spirits priced competitively to support its food sales and enhance its customers dining experience. Wine dinners are organized throughout the year.

Gypsys provide a full menu service throughout the day, with bottomless cups of tea and coffee (non alcoholic), Wireless Free Internet access. Gypsys' Brunch (Breakfast & Lunch) menu has become famous particularly over the week-end with Shenzhen residents as well as locals coming to enjoy a casual meal at their leisure. Gypsys also cater for children with their own special menu.

Gypsys has been voted the Best Restaurant in Shenzhen and one of the best restaurants in China by readers of the popular “CHINA EXPAT” magazine in their 2006 National Bar ＆Restaurant Awards. “CHINA EXPAT” readers are mainly European and American business travellers who often use the website www.chinaexpat.com to find out Where to go and stay , where to eat and drink in cities they are visiting in China. The 2006 Awards feature in the December issue of “CHINA EXPAT” magazine.

Gypsys is located in Shekou, Shenzhen, PRC at what is known locally as Sea World – Hai Shang Shi Jie in Mandarin (where the big ship “Minghua” is located). The address is Shop #3 Hai Bin Commercial Centre, Shekou. To get to Gypsys you simply walk down the pedestrian mall past McDonalds' and KFC and turn left before you start walking down into the basin, walk 30 metres and Gypsys is located on your left.

Gypsys is totally aimed at those looking for western dining in a comfortable, clean and relaxing environment. The big sellers include steaks ( all are around 14oz – 16oz/400gr-460gr), BBQ Pork Ribs, Lasagne, our home made Ravioli, Fish & Chips, Pizzas, some of our Tex Mex Dishes such as the Nachos, Chicken Enchilada. Additionally we have a couple of curries, a Chicken Korma and a Lamb Madras which goes down well with our customers. Vegetarians are well catered for with Vegetarian Lasagne, Feta & Spinach Quiche, and various pasta dishes.

Our wine selection is exclusive to Gypsys, and best value for money around China. The prohibitive cost of wines in restaurants and hotels in China was one of the determining factors in our wine pricing policy.

Gypsys' waitresses speak good English and most have been with the restaurant since its inception. More importantly they understand Western dining etiquette. The kitchen staff are very flexible and will alter dishes where appropriate to suit diner's requirements.
